GICO - Gasification Integrated with CO2 capture and conversion

GICO develops new materials (CO2 capture sorbents; high temperature inorganic removal sorbents; catalytic filter candles; membranes for oxygen separation and methanol production) and technologies (Hydro Thermal Carbonisation; Sorption
Enhanced Gasification; Hot Gas Conditioning; Carbon Capture, Storage and Use; Power To Gas via Plasma conversion) to:

- TRL -Technology Readiness Level 1/2 to 3/4
- Produce intermediate liquid (5 vs 15 euro/MWh) and gaseous (10 vs 30 euro/MWh with zero particulate and ppb contaminants level) bioenergy carriers;
- CO2 capture (40 euro/t vs 90 euro/t) receiving waste high alkali content and producing bricks;
- Convert CO2 to CO and O2 (90 vs 10% efficiency) storing renewable electricity excess;
- Produce methanol (35 vs 75 euro/MWh) and electricity (100 vs 200 euro/MWh).

SO-FREE - Solid oxide fuel cell combined heat and power: Future-ready Energy

- In-depth understanding of the effects of variable fuel compositions - considering mixtures of natural gas, biogas and hydrogen - on the operation of SOFC stacks covering the spectrum of operating temperatures (anode-supported stacks operating at 650°C to electrolyte-supported stacks running at 850°C), integrated in a combined heat and power (CHP) system

- Demonstration of two 5-kWe-class systems for 9 months and >6000 operating hours each, proving efficient (>48% electrical), low-degradation (90% availability) operation in flexi-fuel conditions, each integrating both of two radically different SOFC stack technologies, thereby validating a truly flexible SOFC system adhering to 2024 MAWP targets

- Pre-certification of the developed prototype system according to applicable EU and international directives and regulations, removing any hurdles towards fieldtest certification and detailing the pathway to full CE certification and market compliance
