- Laboratory Buildings are a prodigious consumer of natural resources especially for heating and cooling requirements associated with conditioning ventilation air (HVAC plants)
- Laboratories typically consume 3 to 8 times more energy per square foot than do office buildings.

The project team concentrated their effort on designing a very innovative facility with low energy consumption.
The centrepiece of that effort was a four dimensional sustainability strategy.
