Is your field sensor architecture safe and available?

Overview of Functional Safety standards and the influence to mainly hardware architectures of instrumentation used today. The majority of the Field sensors (like Pressure-,Temperature-,Flow-transmitters) achieved in the past ‘SIL’ compliance certification/statements based on FMEA from a hardware point of view. Many end users today still do NOT realize that there is also software in such devices that could make that sensor not compliant to the leading Functional Safety Standard for such products.
