Heat exchanger design is a complex task as there has been lot of studies devoted to this research area. Many advanced optimizing tools were adapted to specify successful design of heat exchangers. In this article, Improved Intelligent Tuned Harmony Search algorithm (I-ITHS) is proposed for cost minimization of shell and tube exchanger. I-ITHS algorithm, which has a few control parameters and easy in implementation, adopts the global search behavior of the Artificial Bee Colony algorithm and convergence speed of the proposed algorithm has been increased by the Opposition Based learning procedure.
