From the above analysis, it is concluded that sulfur-di-oxide present in the blast furnace exhaust gas gets oxidized into HSO3 in presence of moisture and oxygen at an elevated temperature. Sulfur-tri-oxide in turn gets converted to sulfuric acid in presence of moisture and thus the sulfuric acid reacts with tube material and promotes corrosion.
